Org to fete Cheadle, Swinton, Frears

The British Academy of Film and Television/Los Angeles will honor Don Cheadle, Tilda Swinton and Stephen Frears at its annual awards gala Nov. 6 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel.

Cheadle will receive the BAFTA/LA humanitarian nod for his work with his nonprofit org Not on Our Watch. Last year he produced and starred in socially conscious doc “Darfur Now.”

Swinton, who won the supporting actress Oscar for her role in last year’s “Michael Clayton,” will receive the kudos for British artist of the year. Frears will draw the John Schlesinger Britannia nod for directing. He helms the upcoming “Cheri,” with Michelle Pfeiffer.

Sean Penn was previously announced as the recipient of the Stanley Kubrick Britannia kudos for directing.
