Pic, a period fantasy about a demonic woman who eats the hearts of her lovers, preemed in China on Friday on a wide 2,100 screens at the start of the seven day 'Golden Week' public holiday which marks China's national day.
The holiday period means data collection is erratic, but the Southern China Circuit Cinemas reported that its 257-screen circuit took $900,000 with the Gordon Chan-helmed film in its first three days of release.
Box office for the first five days (Sept 26-30) is now estimated at between $7.3 million and $11.7 million, according to Eastern Mordor, the film's publicist, and Ningxia Film Studio, one of the film's five listed production companies.
"Skin" is a China, Hong Kong and Singapore co-production, with international sales repped by Eastern Mordor.
