Box office incumbents stay strong(1319 views)

Scribes Stephen Belber and Stephen Adly Guirgis; helmers Carolyn Cantor and John Gould Rubin; and thesps Eric Bogosian, Michael Stuhlbarg, John Ortiz and Daphne Rubin-Vega are among the creatives involved in the LAByrinth Theater Company’s fall series of staged readings.

Readings, under the headers Barn Series and Live Nude Plays, are of plays that came out of LAB workshops held in Vermont over the summer.

Running Oct. 23-Nov. 15, Barn Series includes "The Transparency of Val" by Belber and Guirgis’ "The Motherfucker With the Hat." Live Nude slate includes Brett C. Leonard’s "Untitled."

In December, the LAB, the Off Broadway troupe of which Philip Seymour Hoffman is co-a.d., will present "Philip Roth in Khartoum," a new play by David Bar Katz helmed by Rubin, also co-a.d. of the theater. "Roth" is presented in a pared-down production for the Public LAB series, a joint effort with the Public Theater.

Show runs Dec. 4-21 at the Public.
