A sizable house of almost 1,800 seats, the Palace seemed a likely candidate to host "West Side": One of the show’s producers is James L. Nederlander, prexy of the Nederlander Org, which owns the Palace.
Helmed by book writer Arthur Laurents ("Gypsy") and featuring new Spanish-language elements, the production bows in D.C. in December before beginning previews in Gotham on Feb. 23 ahead of a March 19 opening.
The 1957 tuner has a score by Leonard Bernstein with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.
Along with Nederlander, the producing team includes Kevin McCollum, Jeffrey Seller with Terry Allen Kramer, Freddy DeMann, Roy Furman, Robyn Goodman/Walter Grossman, Sandy Jacobs, Hal Luftig, Roy Miller and Broadway Across America.
