Early shuttering of "Xanadu" was prodded by impending losses that would have been incurred in keeping the musical running. Last week, when nearly every production on the boards saw weekly sale rise, "Xanadu" was one of the few to dip slightly, slipping to $162,616.
Producers of "Slava" did not confirm an upcoming run, but the nouveau clown show has been circling a holiday engagement on the Rialto since it ended its 2½-year Off Broadway stint in early 2007.
Although that incarnation of "Slava" shuttered to tour, strong winter sales in Gotham helped encourage plans for a holiday return.
Limited engagements timed to end-of-year holidays have become more regular occurrences on Broadway in recent years, with "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" carving out Noel niches in 2006 and 2007. This season, "Irving Berlin's White Christmas" will play a limited Rialto run beginning in November.
