Pic tells the story of Brooklyn-born Soraya, who travels to Israel and Palestine to claim her family's spiritual and financial heritage. Blocked at every turn, she resorts to force to get what she believes is owed to her.
News of pic's selection came from Dutch co-producer Augustus Film, in advance of its national premiere at the Netherlands Film Festival next week. The decision was made by the Palestinian Ministry of Culture in the past few days, said Augustus topper Bero Beyer.
Pic took its world bow in Cannes this year. Lead producer is JBA Production of France, with Pyramid International handling world sales.
The Academy has invited 96 countries to submit films for foreign-language Oscar consideration. Deadline for submission is Oct. 1, the nominations will be announced Jan. 22, and the 81st awards ceremony takes place Feb. 22.
