While Seven does not have an output deal in place with NBC, whose shows go to rival network Ten, "Kath & Kim" was not part of the regular Ten pact. Seven, which has been airing the local version of the laffer since poaching it from pubcaster the ABC, had made it clear that it wanted the remake from the outset.
Interest in the skein is high Down Under, where the series is a favorite, reaching auds of 2 million-plus and generating huge Internet buzz about the new series, so Seven will bow the series almost day and date -- a trend that has emerged over the past couple of years.
"Just over 48 hours after the show airs in the U.S., Australians will get to see it for themselves and make up their own minds," said Tim Worner, Seven's programming topper.
"Kath & Kim" bows Oct. 9 on NBC and Oct. 12 in Oz.
