Little Airplane, the Gotham animation boutique known for the Nickelodeon skein "The Wonder Pets," is expanding into feature films.

The company, which employs about 70 people in a converted 200-year-old granary in South Street Seaport, will explore family films geared toward theatrical release. It has three projects, all at early stages of development: one live action, one animated and one a blend of the two.

Head of production Tom Brown will lead Little Airplane Films.

"'Wonder Pets' showed us that we had the ability to create longform stories and evergreen, classic family films," said Josh Selig, founder and prexy of Little Airplane. "People have preconceptions about family films, that parents are going to be bored by them, but we really see a way to interest them too."

Along with "Wonder Pets," Little Airplane also produced U.K. series "3rd and Bird," which preemed this year on the BBC. Its past shows include Noggin's "Oobi" and Disney Channel's "Go, Baby."
