'Seraphine' heads to U.K., Australia

Metrodome, Rialto buy French biography

PARIS — Following its world preem at Toronto, Martin Provost’s “Seraphine” has been picked up by Metrodome for the U.K., and Rialto for Australia and New Zealand.

Film recounts the unusual fate of Seraphine de Senlis, a modest housekeeper who becomes a gifted postmodernist painter.

Yohann Comte, head of sales at Gallic shingle Roissy Films, said German, Japanese and U.S. buyers are eying the pic.

The biopic had already been sold before the preem to multiple territories, including Canada (Seville), Spain (Golem), Benelux (Cineart) and Greece (Filmtrade).

Pic will bow in French theaters on Oct. 1, along with a special exhibition of Seraphine's artworks at the Maillol Museum in Paris.
