Oz's national film school said the year-long courses exploring the link between cinematic story and games or virtual worlds are unique worldwide.
John Buchanan, chief technical officer of Relic Entertainment, and Matt Costello, author of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" game, have developed the course with AFTRS.
School has launched the courses in light of the booming virtual worlds industry with 320 million worldwide users. The global interactive games sector was worth $34.3 billion in 2006 with growth outstripping film and television.
