The musicvid countdown show will depart in mid-November with a two-hour Saturday-afternoon special. Its departure will coincide with the return of another musicvid-themed show, "Feedback New MTV" ("FNMTV"), which channel officials say is drawing more interest from viewers and music labels than "TRL."
An MTV studio show combining musicvids and guest appearances — it was once a key destination for top teen pop acts including the Backstreet Boys, N’Sync and Britney Spears — the erstwhile "Total Request Live" bowed Sept. 14, 1998, with Carson Daly as host.
The show was once a big draw for MTV, but its fortunes turned in 2003 when Daly stepped aside as hot. Cancellation rumors began to swirl last year as "TRL" scaled back from five to four airings a week and its average viewership dipped below 400,000.
