‘Line’ draws fest’s top prize

Pic, about a department store security guard racked with guilt after not helping a victim on the subway, was awarded the Patrick Peyton award for excellence in filmmaking and cash prize of $10,000.
The gala, emceed by Chris Balish at the DGA Theater, shelled out more than $50,000 in cash and industry prizes.
Other live-action kudos went to Australian helmer Anna McGrath for her pic, "Small Change," which received the Triumph of the Spirit award; John Arlotto’s "Deface" nabbed the Production Excellence award; Harun Mehmedinovic’s "In the Name of the Son," the Audience Impact award; and Justin Lerner’s "The Replacement Child," the Director’s Choice award. The docu prize went to Laura Waters Hinson’s "As We Forgive," and the toon prize went to Joaquin Baldwin’s "Sebastian’s Voodoo."
The fest recognized 22 finalists for their depiction of the power of the human spirit from more than 470 submissions representing 22 countries.
