Produced through the Canadian Film Center's feature film project, "Nurse.Fighter.Boy," which world preemed on Monday at the Toronto Film Festival, stars Clark Johnson ("The Wire") as a melancholy boxer who crosses paths with an emergency room nurse (Karen LeBlanc) and her precociously wise 12-year-old son (Daniel J. Gordon).
Pic has been lauded for its strong performances, accomplished storytelling and lyrical visual style.
This is the first time a CFC-produced film preeming at Toronto has inked an international sales deal before the festival ends, according to "Nurse.Fighter.Boy" producer and CFC vet Ingrid Veninger.
Canuck distribber Mongrel Media plans to release pic in spring.
Rezo picked up Sundance winner " Frozen River" earlier this year and is increasingly moving into acquiring North American fare.
