The first Rialto revival of an Arthur Miller play since the writer's death three years ago, the production stars John Lithgow, Dianne Wiest, Patrick Wilson and Holmes. Brit helmer Simon McBurney, best known for his work with U.K. experimental theater company Complicite, will direct.
Since box office opened for the play, speculation has appeared in the press that Holmes may not be the draw producers had hoped. One pundit made a point of comparing Holmes' marquee value unfavorably with that of a former Mrs. Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, who opened on Broadway to strong ticket sales in 1998 in David Hare's "The Blue Room."
However, if the advance figure released by producer Eric Falkenstein is accurate, "All My Sons" looks to rank alongside "Equus" as one of the fall season's biggest nonmusical box office performers.
The production begins previews Sept. 18 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theater ahead of an Oct. 16 opening. Miller's 1947 drama was last seen on Broadway in 1987.
