IFC has picked up North American rights to Swedish director Jan Troell's "Everlasting Moments," prevailing over Sony Classics and Roadside Attractions.

The company will release the film in 2009 via its simultaneous theatrical and VOD setup.

"Moments" was avidly pursued after it screened in Telluride as part of a Troell retrospective. It tells the story of Troell's wife's grandmother and her photography hobby, examining cultural shifts over time through the history of one family.

Two versions of the film exist, one 21 minutes longer than the other, and IFC is still determining which cut U.S. audiences will see.

Troell, considered by many cinephiles as second only to Bergman among Scandinavian greats, is best-known for his 1971 film "The Emigrants," which got Oscar noms for director and adapted screenplay.
