U.K.

Entertainment Film Distributors

2008 CUME: $101 million

TOPPERS: Nigel and Trevor Green, co-managing directors; Lisa Macdonald, head of TV

UP NEXT: "The Women" (Sept. 12), "He's Just Not That Into You" (Oct. 24), "Pride and Glory" (Oct. 24)

Anyone who thinks Entertainment Film Distributors will struggle to remain the U.K.'s top indie distributor after the end of its New Line deal should consider this: Over the past decade, Entertainment, owned and run by brothers Nigel and Trevor Green, would have been the indie No. 1 even without its New Line movies.

Of course, it helps having occasional New Line hits such as "Sex and the City" and "The Golden Compass" (among a much greater number of flops), but the Greens also have enjoyed their own success with Brit pics such as "St. Trinian's" and "Run, Fatboy, Run," and prebuys including "The Departed."

The New Line output deal still runs through early 2010, so reports that the Greens are already buying aggressively to fill any holes are wide of the mark. They only picked up one movie at Cannes, the remake of "Fame," preferring to cultivate long-term links with key producers, such as Graham King, rather than splashing their cash on the open market. "We are happy to rely on our own choice of films to deliver a strong slate," says Nigel Green.

The company recently poached Lisa Macdonald from Sky to run a new TV arm developing movie spinoff opportunities.
