'Birdwatchers' sets sights abroad

Eco-drama romance is set in Brazilian jungle

Rolling off a warm reception in competition at Venice, Paris-based Celluloid Dreams has sold several territories on Marco Bechis' "Birdwatchers."

An eco-drama romance, "Birdwatchers" is set in the Brazilian jungle.

Hopscotch closed Australia on the first day of the Toronto festival.

"Birdwatchers" has also sold to the U.K. (Artificial Eye), Germany (Pandora), Benelux (Cinemien), Austria (Filmladen) and Switzerland (Trigon).

In further deals, "Achilles and the Tortoise," another Venice Competition player, this time from vet Japanese helmer Takeshi Kitano, has sold to France's Ocean and Russia's Maywin.

At Toronto, Celluloid Dreams premieres "Youssou Ndour: I Bring What I Love," a docu feature following the Grammy-winning musician after the release of his "Egypt" album.
