Demian Bichir debuts in 'Babylon'

Geffen Playhouse production to open Nov. 5

Demian Bichir, the Mexican actor who portrays Fidel Castro in Steven Soderbergh's Che Guevara films and Mary Louise-Parker's love interest on Showtime's "Weeds," will make his U.S. stage debut in "By the Waters of Babylon" at the Geffen Playhouse.

Shannon Cochran, who won an Obie Award for "Bug" and most recently starred in "The Lion in Winter" in Chicago, will appear opposite Bichir in Robert Schenkkan's play. Schenkkan won the Pulitzer for "The Kentucky Cycle."

"By the Waters of Babylon," directed by Richard Seyd, opens at the Geffen on Nov. 5.
