Released in 2003, the thriller is the most successful Flemish film of the past decade. A modest international career followed, including a run Stateside.
Long slated to direct "Dossier K," Van Looy now has a multi-year contract with TV production house Woestijnvis that means he can't continue with the project.
Verheyen takes over after his own thriller, "Vermist," helped Flemish film to a record box office year in 2007. His comedy, "Cut Loose," bowed at the Montreal World Film Festival in August.
"Dossier K" reunites thesps Koen De Bouw and Werner De Smedt as cops Vincke and Verstuyft, this time confronting Albanian gangsters in Antwerp and corruption in the ranks.
Eyeworks Film & TV Drama produces, with cameras set to roll in March. Film should bow October 2009 through Kinepolis.
