Metrodome nabs 'Genova' in U.K.

Michael Winterbottom film added to slate

LONDON — U.K. indie distrib Metrodome has snapped up U.K. and Irish rights to Michael Winterbottom’s “Genova,” a drama about a grief-stricken English family who move to Italy in search of a fresh start.

The expanding company, which announced a management restructure last week, acquired the Colin Firth starrer from Revolution Films.

Deal was negotiated between Metrodome CEO Peter Urie and general manager Sara Frain, and Revolution’s Andrew Eaton, who produced “Genova” alongside Winterbottom.

“With ‘Genova,’ Michael Winterbottom solidifies his position as a leading director of contemporary British filmmaking,” commented Frain.

Upcoming theatrical 2008 releases from Metrodome include French animation “Fear(s) of the Dark,” extreme sports doc “Steep,” Hong Kong crime thriller “The Chaser” and big budget actioner “The Warlords,” starring Jet Li, Andy Lau and Takeshi Kaneshiro.
