Lincoln Center is calling its upcoming screening series a "sidebar" to the New York Film Festival. Titled "In the Realm of Oshima," the 26-film retrospective will follow the films of Japanese helmer and activist Nagisa Oshima over his five-decade career. Half of the films will screen in new 35mm prints and many are not available on DVD or VHS.

In addition to the screenings, Lincoln Center will also host "The Place of Oshima," a free panel discussion with film scholars and critics. Oshima has the distinction of directing the only pic invited to the NYFF ever to be censored: the print of his 1976 feature "In the Realm of the Senses" was held at customs until after the festival because of its content.

The series runs Sept. 27-Oct. 13 and will include his most recent film, "Taboo."
