IFC takes 'Flame & Citron' to U.S.

Danish hit screens at Telluride, Toronto

By ED MEZA

BERLIN — IFC Films has picked up U.S. rights to Ole Christian Madsen's Danish box office hit “Flame & Citron.”

The fact-based World War II pic stars Mads Mikkelsen (“Casino Royale”) and Thure Lindhardt (“Into the Wild”) as two Danish resistance fighters who hunt down collaborators in German-occupied Copenhagen.

The film will have its North American premiere this weekend at the Telluride Film Festival followed by a screening at the Toronto Intl. Film Festival.

IFC will release the film day-and-date in theaters and on VOD next year.

The $10 million pic opened in Denmark in March and has grossed more than $9 million domestically. So far, it has sold to 18 countries, including Australia and New Zealand, China, Japan, France, Spain, the U.K. and Germany, where it opened Aug. 28 via NFP/Warner.

"Flame & Citron" was produced by Lars Brado Rahbek for Nimbus Films, Germany’s Wueste Film and Studio Babelsberg. Cologne-based The Match Factory is handling world sales.
