Thanks to the World Soundtrack Awards, the Ghent fest is usually associated with film music, but this year it is also developing a strong animation theme.
Belgium's vet toon helmer Raoul Servais will receive an honorary degree from Ghent U. during the fest, recognizing his contribution to cinema and education. In 1963 he established Europe's first school of animation at Ghent's Academy of Fine Arts.
A workshop on stop-motion puppet animation will also be held, led by Portuguese filmmaker Jose Miguel Ribeiro. His "A suspeita" won the Cartoon d'Or in 2000.
