Swedish epic takes in $1.6 million over frame

STOCKHOLM -- The second part of Swedish epic, "Arn: The Kingdom at the Road's End," had a good start at the local box office this weekend, notching up a respectable $1.6 million from Friday to Sunday.

The first part in Scandinavia's most expensive pic project ever, "Arn: The Knight Templar," opened on Dec. 25 and made a total of $14.9 million locally. Some 1.1 million saw it in Sweden, a record for any local film released in the country.

The two films, about a knight's return home from the crusades to fight in Sweden, had an estimated budget of $33 million. Producer Svensk will edit the two films, helmed by Denmark's Peter Flinth, into one two-hour feature for release internationally within the coming year.

The two films are based on the best-selling "Arn" trilogy by author Jan Guillou,
