The Danish Film Institute has picked Niels Arden Oplev’s 'To verdener' (“Worlds Apart”) to represent Denmark in contention for the foreign-language film Oscar.

The Danish Film Institute has picked Niels Arden Oplev’s “To verdener” (“Worlds Apart”) to represent Denmark in contention for the foreign-language film Oscar.

Pic, about the daughter of a Jehovah’s Witness who falls in love with a nonbeliever, drew 315,000 admissions on home turf. It screened in the Tribeca Film Festival and the Generation 14plus section of the Berlin Film Festival.

“Worlds Apart,” which was produced by Thomas Heinesen for Nordisk Film, has been picked up for U.S. distribution by IFC Entertainment.

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences has invited 96 countries to submit films for foreign-language Oscar consideration. Deadline for submission is Oct. 1, the nominations will be announced Jan. 22, and the award ceremony takes place on Feb. 22.
