Xbox outsell PS2 in Japan

'Vesperia' fans give console a boost

Microsoft’s Xbox 360 has outsold the PlayStation 3 console for the first time in Japan, according to a survey from game publisher Ascii Media Works.

Xbox 360 moved 28,116 units in the week ended Aug. 10 vs. 10,705 for PS3.

Both were left in the dust by Nintendo, which sold 41,044 Wii consoles in the same period.

The boost for Xbox, which has long struggled in Japan, came from fans of “Tales of Vesperia,” developed by Bandai Namco exclusively for Xbox 360. The title is skedded to launch in the U.S. on Aug. 26.
