This is a boost for a fest that lost almost all government coin two years ago after a feud with the film-funding agencies.
The fest also will receive $254,000 from Quebec film agency Sodec, $70,000 from the provincial Culture Dept., $197,000 from Quebec's Tourism Dept. and $155,000 from the Municipal Affairs Dept. Federal funder Telefilm Canada has yet to announce how much it will give.
Montreal kicks off Thursday with the world preem of Gallic helmer Christophe Barratier's "Faubourg 36" and continues until Sept. 1.
Telefilm and Sodec withdrew funds in 2005 to support a new fest in Montreal. But that event only lasted a year. The two agencies returned to the fold last year.
