Hyler sustained "severe and multiple injuries" after being struck by a passing car as she headed to a home in the area, according to information posted on the hospital's website by Hyler's family. She was first taken to a facility at Pepperdine U. and then flown to UCLA Medical Center.
The family's report said she was in the intensive care unit and had required more than 40 units of blood, but was able to respond to doctors' instructions. A hospital spokesman confirmed that she was still in critical condition as of Monday morning.
"The reports are more encouraging but Joan is not out of the woods yet," the family's report read.
In a show of support for Hyler, Endeavor and Hyler's family members have organized a blood drive, to be held Wednesday in the agency's screening room from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. The effort is a response to UCLA Medical Center's call for Hyler's friends and associates to show their concern by helping to replenish the hospital's blood supply. To sked an appointment to donate blood, call Sarah Adolphson at 310-248-3039.
