Partnerships are the first for ArtstDirect as it aims to become one of the Web’s largest official repositories for lyrics. Most lyric databases are fan-generated and often not 100% accurate.
More than 1 million EMI songs will be featured; the number of Universal tunes was not disclosed. ArtistDirect is an Internet resource for music and entertainment news.
David Renzer, chairman-CEO of the Universal Music Publishing Group, said, "This deal marks another positive step in monetizing the legal use of lyrics online."
