Deadlines set for O’Neill conference

Submissions must come in by Oct. 17

The Eugene O’Neill Theater Center has announced fall deadlines for applicants to next year’s conferences.

The Waterford, Conn., campus recently wrapped its annual summertime development program for plays and tuners.

The National Playwrights Conference -- which counts August Wilson, John Guare, Adam Rapp and Wendy Wasserstein on its list of alums -- will accept submissions postmarked Sept. 15-Oct. 17.

The National Music Theater Conference, which helped develop recent Tony winner “In the Heights,” will accept applications postmarked Sept. 1-Dec. 1.

Selected creatives will be allotted residencies during the 2009 sessions of the conferences.

Among the country’s higher-profile legit development programs, the O’Neill conferences are among the very few that accept open submissions, with no agent or other professional representation required.
