Japan's Toho sets box office record

This figure beats July 2001, the previous record holder, when the mega-hit Hayao Miyazaki toon "Spirited Away" was in the theaters.
Toho pics on release last month included the new Miyazaki toon "Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea," which bowed on July 19 and cumed $65.9 million by Aug. 10, as well as the new entry in the hit "Pokemon" toon series, which is expected to better the $45.9 million of last year's installment.
Smash romantic drama "Boys Over Flowers" and hit Koki Mitani laffer "The Magic Hour" added substantially to the July B.O.
Toho's total for January to July is $333.9 million, which is 126.9% of last year's B.O. for the first seven months.
