Governors Award salutes an individual, company or organization that has made a substantial impact and demonstrated extraordinary use of television. Net will be presented with the award at the Sept. 13 Creative Arts Emmys at the Nokia Theater.
The campaign was a mix of documentaries, PSAs, online messages and outreach projects. Specials and initiatives included "Six Degrees That Saved the World," "Aftermath: Population Zero," "Human Footprint," "Earth Day 2007" and "Naked Earth."
"As the climate crisis becomes more urgent, NGC has been strongly committed to providing actionable information for those who want to make a change, and it is especially meaningful to have those efforts recognized by the Academy," said Steve Schiffman, the Nat Geo's GM and exec VP.
Net recently received 12 Emmy noms, the most in its history.
