Caryl Churchill honored by peers

Birthday celebrated with readings

London’s Royal Court Theater will celebrate Caryl Churchill’s 70th birthday this fall with a series of 10 readings of the playwright’s work, all helmed by fellow legit scribes.

Offerings on the bill include “Ice Cream” helmed by thesp-writer Wallace Shawn, “Light Shining in Buckinghamshire” directed by Mark Ravenhill (“Shopping and Fucking”), “Top Girls” helmed by Nicholas Wright (“Vincent in Brixton”) and “Far Away” directed by Martin Crimp (“Attempts on her Life”).

Since Churchill began writing plays in 1972, the Court has preemed several of her plays including “Cloud Nine,” “Top Girls,” “Serious Money,” “Mad Forest,” “A Number” and “Drunk Enough to Say I Love You?”

Churchill birthday fest runs Sept. 15-26.
