'America's Got Talent' tops Tuesday

'Big Brother,' 'Wipeout' also highlight night

NBC scored an easy victory on Tuesday night courtesy of "America's Got Talent," which aired a two-hour episode prior to taking the next couple of weeks off.

According to preliminary nationals from Nielsen, "America's Got Talent" was easily the night's top-rated program, averaging a 3.5 rating/10 share in adults 18-49 and 12.4 million viewers overall from 9 to 11 p.m., peaking with a 3.9/11 in the demo in its final half-hour. Show will now take the next two weeks off as NBC shifts to Olympics coverage, then return for another month leading up to its Oct. 1 finale.

Other highlights on the night included CBS' "Big Brother" inching up to a season high at 9 o'clock (2.4/7 in 18-49, 6.4 million viewers overall), and ABC's "Wipeout" capturing the 8 o'clock hour with a clip-show episode (2.8/9 in 18-49, 7.3 million viewers overall). Not faring as well for the Alphabet net was "I Survived a Japanese Gameshow," which aired its two-hour finale (1.8/5 in 18-49, 4.5 million viewers overall).

Fox was up week to week with repeats of "Kitchen Nightmares" (1.8/6 in 18-49, 4.1 million viewers overall) and "House" (2.0/6 in 18-49, 5.5 million viewers overall).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: NBC, 2.8/8; ABC, 2.1/6; CBS and Fox, 1.9/6; Univision, 1.6/5; CW, 0.4/1.

In total viewers: NBC, 10.3 million; CBS, 7.0 million; ABC, 5.4 million; Fox, 4.8 million; Univision, 3.9 million; CW, 1.0 million.
