MPA Mexico appoints director

Caballero to take on nation's rampant piracy

MEXICO CITY -- Mexico's Motion Picture Assn. named Federico De la Garza Caballero as national director Thursday.

The former director general of WB's Home Entertainment arm will take on the task of fighting piracy in a nation where illegal DVDs are sold with impunity at thousands of open-air stalls dotting the nation's capital.

"Federico has ample experience in the film industry and understands the challenges that we must face in Latin America and Mexico in particular," said MPA prexy Dan Glickman.

An MPA Mexico press release noted that Mexico's dire piracy rates resulted in $1.1 billion in lost sales in 2005.
