The conglom, considered the No. 1 producer of Spanish content worldwide, will soon be offering Planeta Futbol in response to the broad-spectrum soccer fan base in Mexico.
"Planeta Futbol is an unprecedented concept that offers viewers instant access to statistics, game calendars and information in real time," Televisa said in a statement.
The channel will also provide exclusive game transmissions, Mexican tournament matches as well as international soccer fare such as Spanish Liga Espanola and English Premiere League games.
Coming out just at two years before the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, the channel has plenty of time to penetrate a number of markets in Spanish-speaking countries through foreign cable and satellite providers.
This will almost certainly include entrance into U.S. markets, where the most obvious competition lies with the Spanish-language Fox Sports en Espanol and the Fox Soccer Channel. Planteta Futbol would essentially merge these two concepts into one.
