Mario Lopez to host 'Extra'

Actor moving to weekday edition as solo emcee

Mario Lopez will be the host of "Extra" when the syndicated entertainment skein begins its new season on Sept. 15.

A former weekend co-host, Lopez will jump to the weekday edition as solo emcee. He replaces current co-hosts Dayna Devon, who will become a correspondent, and Mark McGrath, who leaves the show to return to a music career.

Warner Bros.-distributed "Extra" begins its 15th season in the fall and airs in more than 95% of the country. Top stations are the NBC O&O's in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York.

"He will be a fresh and dynamic presence, and we can't wait for him to assume his new role," said senior exec producer Lisa Gregorish-Dempsey.

"Extra" is produced by Time Telepictures Prods. Theresa Coffino is exec producer.
