A former weekend co-host, Lopez will jump to the weekday edition as solo emcee. He replaces current co-hosts Dayna Devon, who will become a correspondent, and Mark McGrath, who leaves the show to return to a music career.
Warner Bros.-distributed "Extra" begins its 15th season in the fall and airs in more than 95% of the country. Top stations are the NBC O&O's in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York.
"He will be a fresh and dynamic presence, and we can't wait for him to assume his new role," said senior exec producer Lisa Gregorish-Dempsey.
"Extra" is produced by Time Telepictures Prods. Theresa Coffino is exec producer.
