Beantown subscribers to the Broadway Across America-Boston series have reportedly received a letter stating the musical, originally skedded to run Dec. 16-Jan. 11 at Boston's Colonial Theater, has been postponed, with no new dates confirmed.
Delay for the show, which draws on the songbook of George and Ira Gershwin, comes after director Kathleen Marshall ("The Pajama Game," "Grease") and a team of producers walked off the project earlier this year, citing irreconcilable differences. A replacement helmer has not been found.
There is no word yet on how the Broadway timeline, which would have brought "Nice Work" to Gotham in the spring, will be affected.
Producers affiliated with Broadway Across America, the lead producing org for the show, could not be reached for comment.
New tuner "Nice Work," in which Connick has been cast as a Prohibition-era playboy, has a new book by Joe DiPietro ("I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change") that incorporates Gershwin songs. Show is loosely related to DiPietro's 2001 regional outing "They All Laughed," inspired by 1926 Gershwin musical "Oh, Kay!"
