Studio is co-publishing casual games based on those three pics from its library for release later this year. It’s splitting production costs with partner Legacy Interactive.
Par first disclosed plans to start financing its own videogames several months ago (Daily Variety, March 28). The three teen-pic properties represent the studio’s first investment in the low-cost casual vidgames it will co-publish this year and next before moving into more expensive console titles.
Sandi Isaacs, head of Par’s videogame biz, said she and her team picked those three pics to adapt first because they have more female appeal, and casual vidgames are primarily played by women.
They will be distributed at retail and via digital download with an expected price of $20. Par is also looking to make versions for portable gaming consoles like the Nintendo DS that will be released later.
Legacy is handling U.S. publishing, while Paramount is publishing in foreign markets.
Cast from the movies are not expected to be involved in the games.
