"High School Musical: Get in the Picture" did well enough among kids but didn't bring in enough of their parents. As a result, it logged the summer's second-lowest premiere scores, behind only ABC's Friday flameout "Dance Machine."
According to preliminary nationals from Nielsen, the Nick Lachey-hosted "Get in the Picture" settled for a fourth-place 1.1 rating/3 share in adults 18-49 and 4 million viewers overall despite airing behind a repeat of the potent "America's Funniest Home Videos" (prelim 1.6/6 in 18-49, 5.5 million).
In the 18-49 demo, it was beaten out by CBS' "Big Brother" (prelim 1.9/6 in 18-49, 5.8 million), repeats of Fox comedies "The Simpsons" (prelim 1.6/6 in 18-49, 3.5 million) and "King of the Hill" (1.6/5, 3.5 million) and even a special off-night repeat of NBC's "America's Got Talent" (prelim 1.4/4 in 18-49, 5.3 million).
If there was a bright spot, it's that its audience held steady throughout the course of its hour. "Get in the Picture" also won its timeslot among kids 2-11 (1.5/7) but placed third among the broadcasters in teens 12-17 (0.5/2).
"Get in the Picture" is airing twice a week (Sundays and Mondays at 8 p.m.) before continuing only in its regular Monday slot beginning Aug. 4. Winner will be featured in the closing credits of the upcoming feature film "High School Musical" sequel this fall and will also land a talent holding deal with ABC.
ABC saw its reality contest 'High School Musical: Get in the Picture' begin life on a low note.
