German film org to launch scholarship

Medienboard managing director Kirsten Niehuus and FFA topper Peter Dinges announced the project at the Jerusalem Film Festival, which runs July 10-19.
The artist-in-residence program, dubbed Berlin -- 3 Months 24/7, kicks off next summer with two young Israeli filmmakers coming to the German capital for three months to develop their own projects and immerse themselves in the local industry, meeting regularly with producers, directors and writers active in the film and TV sector.
Recipients will be invited to get involved in film production, attend film-related events and acquire first-hand knowledge of Germany's film-funding structure.
"In the past several years, we've provided financial support for many interesting German-Israeli productions, including the film 'Waltz With Bashir,' which was in competition at Cannes. Our goal with the new Berlin scholarship is to support the already creative collaboration among Israeli and German filmmakers even further," Niehuus said.
Dinges noted that "with this program we are building on the budding German-Israeli cooperation, which has already resulted in a number of successful co-productions and enabling young, talented Israeli film professionals to go beyond their borders and expand and broaden their perspectives."
Among the local industryites supporting the initiative and serving as program mentors are producer Nico Hofmann of TeamWorx; Oliver Berben of MOOVIE -- the Art of Entertainment; Andro Steinborn, head of X Filme Intl.; Roman Paul and Gerhard Meixner of Razor Film Produktion; and Andre Schmitz, Berlin's State Secretary for Culture.
