The Conseil Superieur de l'Audiovisuel (CSA) has given the newly created MTV Networks Wallonia permission to broadcast MTV and Nickelodeon programming for nine years, with an option to renew after 2017.
International versions of MTV music shows and children's programming on Nickelodeon have been available in French-speaking Belgium for two years.
However, the CSA authorization means that local content laws must be respected, including an obligation to provide programming targeted at the Belgian audience.
MTV Networks Wallonia must also contribute to the French-speaking audiovisual industry either through a cash contribution to the annual budget of the local subsidy body or by making some of its production facilities available.
MTV Networks Wallonia joins nine private broadcasters operating in French-speaking Belgium.
