Lil Wayne still at No. 1 on charts

'Modern Guilt,' 'Mamma Mia' crack the top 10

Beck’s “Modern Guilt” and the soundtrack to the “Mamma Mia” film were the only debuts in the top 10 as Lil Wayne’s “Tha Carter III” held on to No. 1 for a second week in a row.

“Tha Carter III” sold 125,000 copies in the week ended Sunday to remain the bestselling album in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan data. Coldplay’s “Viva la Vida” remains at No. 2 on sales of 113,000.

“Modern Guilt” (DGC) sold 84,000 copies in its first stanza to start at No. 4. Disc marks Beck’s fourth consecutive top 10 debut this decade.

Decca’s soundtrack to the film based on the Abba musical sold 48,000 copies to make its debut at No. 7. The film opens Friday, which should push up sales considerably next week.

The Wynton Marsalis-Willie Nelson live album “Two Men With the Blues” (Blue Note) sold 22,000 to open at No. 20, the highest chart position for both artists since SoundScan started tracking sales in 1991. It is the highest position for Nelson since “Always on My Mind” was No. 2 in 1982. Marsalis’ previous high was “Hot House Flowers” (No. 90 in 1984). The two appeared at the Hollywood Bowl in L.A. last week and return to Jazz at Lincoln Center, where the album was recorded, on Feb. 9.

The only other debuts in the top 50 were Los Temperarios’ “Si Tu Te Vas” (Fonovisa), which moved 17,000 (No. 26), and the Maine’s “Can’t Stop Won’t Stop” (Fearless) which sold 12,000 (No. 40).

A new edition of Maroon 5’s “It Won’t Be Soon Before Long,” which includes a DVD featuring concert footage, four musicvideos and five B-sides, shot up 73 slots to No. 25 on sales of 18,000.

Sony Legacy’s release of Billy Joel’s “The Stranger: 30th Anniversary Edition” sold 16,000 copies in its first week. The two CD/one-DVD set is considered a catalog release and is not included in the top 200.
