Clark Kellogg, a 16-year veteran of the Eye, will replace Packer as top analyst and team up with announcer Jim Nantz to call CBS' most high-profile games, including the Final Four.
"This decision was made with myself and CBS over a year ago," Packer told the Associated Press. "Their timing to announce it is their business. I have nothing to do with that. I was working on a series of one-year contracts for several years. "
Packer joined CBS after working at NBC and forming part of college basketball's most storied announcing tandems when he was coupled with Al McGuire. Including his time at the Peacock, Packer called 34 Final Four tournaments.
"Clark Kellogg earned all rights to this top spot," said Sean McManus, president of CBS Sports. "Like Billy Packer, Al McGuire or any of the most highly regarded broadcasters, Clark is an original voice with his own style and perspective."
