Raul Esparza gets behind 'Plow'

Actor to star opposite Piven in Mamet revival

Raul Esparza will star opposite Jeremy Piven in the upcoming Broadway revival of David Mamet's "Speed-the-Plow."

Esparza, nommed for a Tony earlier this year for his perf in "The Homecoming," will play Charlie Fox to Piven's Bobby Gould.

Fox and Gould are dueling film producers in the 1988 Hollywood comedy; the three-hander's final thesp, playing the role of a young temp first portrayed by Madonna, has yet to be cast.

"Plow" reunites Esparza with "Homecoming" producers Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel and Steve Traxler (who also produced "August: Osage County"). In 2007 Esparza was Tony-nommed for his lead role in tuner "Company."

Richard, Frankel and Traxler also backed the Broadway run of "November," the new Mamet comedy that shutters at the end of the week.

"Speed-the-Plow" has not been seen on Broadway since its preem, produced by Lincoln Center Theater 20 years ago. A recent London production starred Kevin Spacey and Jeff Goldblum.

Rialto revival of "Plow" is helmed by Atlantic Theater a.d. Neil Pepe, who, like Piven, makes his Rialto debut with the production. Creative team includes Scott Pask (sets) and Laura Bauer (costumes).

Show begins rehearsals in September ahead of a planned Oct. 3 start date. "Plow" will play a Shubert Theater yet to be confirmed.
