Reality reunion specials are nothing new, but it’s unusual for a network news division to oversee such an event.
But NBC is positioning the "Baby Borrowers" special as an "interactive town hall reunion" that will not only feature the show’s cast and producers, but also include "other news-making guests."
Special will air on Wednesday, Aug. 6 at 9 p.m., a week after the "Baby Borrowers" reunion. Net will also rebroadcast the finale that night at 8 p.m.
NBC News’ David Corvo will exec produce the reunion special/town hall meeting, which will also feature questions from viewers.
Show, based on a UK format, revolves around teenage couples who, under supervision, are given babies, and then toddlers and later teens and senior citizens, to care for.
Concerns have been raised over the fact that parents have allowed their children to take part in the show. NBC has responded by arguing that "Baby Borrowers" comes as teen pregnancy has risen in 2006 for the first time in 14 years (just as celeb teen pregnancies have hit the headlines).
"This special should shed more light on a controversial subject that deserves more personal discussion beyond the social experiment that we provided to entertain audiences this summer," said NBC Entertainment alternative series/specials exec VP Craig Plestis
