Washington Post taps new editor

Marcus Brauchli named executive editor

Marcus Brauchli, formerly of the Wall Street Journal, has been tapped for the exec editor spot at the Washington Post. Leonard Downie Jr.'s last day in the job is Sept. 8.

Brauchli, formerly a managing editor for the WSJ, was ousted when News Corp. bought the paper in April. Downie, too, resigned under a new publisher: the Post's Katharine Weymouth.

Jim Brady, exec editor of Washingtonpost.com, and Phil Bennett, managing editor of the hard copy, will report to Brauchli.
