It wasn't clear whether Dobkowitz was retiring or whether he was asked to depart the post by "The Price Is Right" producer FremantleMedia. The show is currently on hiatus and will begin its 37th season in two weeks.
A daytime staple for CBS for decades, "Price" has been a primetime player this past season for the Eye as well. It fared well on Friday nights, winning its time period, but was moved to Wednesday for May sweeps and had a tougher time drawing viewers in the new slot.
Drew Carey replaced Bob Barker as host last year, and Dobkowitz's departure may signal more changes for the gameshow.
FremantleMedia issued a statement concerning Dobkowitz's exit.
"Roger has been a vital member of 'The Price Is Right,' and his loyalty, devotion and creativity have played a key role in the brand and its enduring success. He's a gameshow legend in his own right, and we thank him for his tireless contributions."
