De Haas to head Kinowelt

Exec to report to StudioCanal boss

By ED MEZA

BERLIN — Jan-Pelgrom de Haas has been named managing director of Kinowelt, replacing Bertil le Claire, who ankled his post in May.

De Haas begins immediately and reports directly to Olivier Courson, CEO of parent group StudioCanal.

“Our goal is to transform Kinowelt into Germany’s leading independent film distribution company within the next three years,” said Courson.

“We are glad to benefit from Jan-Pelgrom’s experience and expertise in achieving this goal and in further expanding an already successful company.”

De Haas most recently served as managing director of Joop van den Ende’s Stage Entertainment Germany and also worked for RTL Group subsidiary UFA Film und Fernsehproduktion, where he headed the Grundy TV Prods. division.

He will now oversee Kinowelt’s further integration into the StudioCanal group, which took over Kinowelt in January, buying the company’s core distribution business from founders Michael and Rainer Koelmel.

Company’s distribution slate includes Mike Myers vehicle “Love Guru,” Eddie Murphy starrer “Meet Dave,” Alexandre Aja’s “Mirrors,” starring Kiefer Sutherland and Antoine Fuqua’s “Brooklyn’s Finest.”

Kinowelt’s production arm, Kinowelt Filmproduktion, was not part of the StudioCanal takeover and remains under the management of Rainer Koelmel, who renamed the shingle Starhaus Filmproduktion.
