Mini-fest, which runs Aug. 9-Sept. 15, will present some 30 movies in two strands, Summer Pops and Summer Classics. While Classics will pay tribute to Sweden's recently deceased Ingmar Bergman and Japan's Kon Ichikawa, Pops is an assembly of commercially oriented recent pics from Japan, Korea, France, India and the U.S., plus a sprinkling of standouts from the Berlin and Cannes fests.
"Flame," helmed by mainland Chinese director Liu Fendou preemed in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes this year. Pic is an adaptation of a novel by Wang Shuo, about a reformed blackmailer who sets out to avenge the death of the woman who saved his soul.
It is produced by actor Simon Yam and was previously presented at the 2006 edition of the Hong Kong Asia Film Financing Forum. It stars Yam Liao Fan, Monica Mok, Hai Yi Tian and Lam Suet.
Fest will unveil the rest of its lineup late next week.
